Head out to the iconic Dinosaur Park and challenge yourself to a hike in the hoodoos or check out the visitor’s centre. Be sure to stop at the Badlands Mercantile for a souvenir on the way out, it’s a quaint modern general store with curated art, gifts & convenience plus a little prairie flair! You will surely have worked up an appetite, so you will definitely want to make a detour to grab a mouthwatering donut at The Prairie Cottage Bake Shop in Duchess or if high tea is more your style, the Little Teapot Cafe & Bakery in Rosemary is a must see.
Join us for the Legend pre-registration party Friday evening at Piston Broke, Brooks’ first craft brewery! Piston Broke Brewing is family-friendly (kids are welcome) and boasts a small but delicious menu. Bring the whole crew by for beer, non-alcoholic beverages, and a bite to eat! Plus, just for attending and completing registration that night, you will be entered into our draw for a basket filled with items from some of our local faves, and some cold hard cash to spend at some of your new soon to be favorite local spots! Just around the corner you will find the newest addition to the craft brew scene Newell Brewing Company where you can try some local brews in their cool one of a kind tap room!
Saturday morning shotgun start for The Legend tourney at 9am gives you just enough time to hit up Steaming Cup for your morning java before you hit the links at the Brooks Golf Club . Sandy and her crew know their coffee and their lattes are absolutely fab and always served with a smile.
Devouring a famous Brooks Hotel Sandwich with a cold one is a must on Sunday. The Brooks is a local institution and these sammies are no joke! They have been enjoyed for years by locals during traditional “Friday lunch” meet and greets with friends and co-workers and featured by many a foodie including this feature Blog Get the roast beef “loaded, heated” and you won’t regret it, trust us!
Take your full belly to the new ball diamonds to cheer on the Brooks Bombers in an afternoon baseball game in the sunshine! If you didn’t get enough golf on Saturday, maybe you can squeeze in another nine on one of the other beautiful local courses: Meadows Par 3 Duchess Golf Club Bassano Sage & Thistle Golf Course Rolling Hills Golf & Country Club
If you’re bringing the family along, you might as well make a long weekend out of it and spend Monday exploring the many other amazing attractions the Brooks Region has to offer! Cool off in the pool at the JBS Canada Centre or head outside to the Duke of Sutherland Splashpark for some fun in the sun! The trip to the Bassano Swimming Pool is well worth the short drive, plus you can check out the real homemade, from scratch favorites at the local staple PD’s Bistro
Don’t forget to check out a little piece of Alberta History at the Brooks Aqueduct or Brooks & District Museum. The Rolling Hills Reservoir an “oasis” on the prairie this campground, located on Rolling Hills Reservoir approximately 20 kilometers south of Brooks boasts a large number of big beautiful tree lined campsites, sandy beaches, boat launch and marina, plus a couple playgrounds for the kids!
Kinbrook Island Provincial Park is another great camping option in the area with the largest and warmest man made lake that’s perfect for all your favorite water sports!
Another hidden gem in the prairie is the beautiful Crawling Valley Campground
